Grounded: Bad Dog, Kenya

My next door neighbour tattled and now Kenya is grounded ... tied until the lake thaws completely.

Garry told me that the dog I thought had finally learned her lesson because she was staying away from the ice, had, in fact, gone over to his place yesterday and played on the ice again.

So now she will have to wait out real spring ... when the lake become water again ... and swimmable.

Better safe than sorry ... and all those other platitudes ... but I do hate having to tie her out ...

Tomorrow we will go for long walks ... maybe up in the woods where she can lope along off leash.

It's hard to explain to Kenya that actions have consequences.

Yes, the punishment or reward has to be immediate. However, at least this way she will be safe to swim another day.

And don't forget a post and rope or combination of that and a big rock for any ice-rescue attempts.

TechWood ... What in heaven's name am I supposed to do with all that? Fasten the rope around my waist as I wade out to get her ... and then bean her with the large rock so that she receives an immediate punishment? I know you really like Kenya so it must be something else.

No,no, no. You tie the rope around the stick and use the rock to hammer the stick into the thawing ground.

Why? To occupy you and divert you from panic. It works equally well for children and the elderly in danger.
